Elgin Area Historical Society and Museum
One of the most historic pieces in the museum's collection is their building. Known as Old Main the historic home of the Elgin Academy was constructed in 1856. Permanent exhibits include information about the Elgin National Watch Company, a Native American Collection, and Elgin Road Race memorabilia.

IRM, a not-for-profit educational corporation, is a large U.S. railroad historical museum, with a collection of nearly 400 railroad cars. It offers the comprehensive experience of the Chicago streetcars, midwestern interurbans, the Nebraska Zephyr, the Frisco 1630 steam engine, as well as restored freight and passenger cars.
